Join Asylum Welcome and our neighbours across Oxford in shining a light for welcome this winter.
This winter, we’re inviting everyone in Oxford to place an orange light in their window during the Oxford Christmas Light Festival (14–16 November) — a simple symbol of welcome, sanctuary, and hope for people seeking safety.
The colour orange represents compassion and warmth, inspired by the Refugee Nation flag and the colours of a lifebelt. It’s become a quiet sign of solidarity across the UK through the Orange Heart movement.
By placing an orange light in your window, you’ll be helping to fill Oxford with light and kindness.
Your light can say:
✨ You are seen.
✨ You are safe.
✨ You belong.
Together, we can make the city glow with compassion and community.
👉 Download and print a poster here to share the message in your home, school, or workplace OR pick up a hard copy from our office on Magdalen Road!
P.S. If you’re joining in, we’d love to see your orange lights on social media — share a photo and tag us in so we can celebrate Oxford shining together. Thank you!
